Ressie is ready… Her cushions are plumped, her decks sparkling… The safety audits are safely audited and she is provisioned to within a millimetre of her capacity…. Buy Woolworth shares… The ressie crew shopped up a share-rallying storm.
Darwin is hot… But the beer is cold and the locals are friendly… Really friendly! Cullen Marina, home to just four of the eighteen World Arc Rally boats (the others are settled outside the lock system which is our entry and exit point) is pretty, practical and perfectly positioned and is bizarrely 11 minutes away by Google Map from everywhere we have so far needed to navigate to by hire car… Yep… Every time… 11 minutes!
We’ve run out of time to visit the crocodile farm, but as some wag pointed out, Ken already has two old Crocs on board …. It is true that we arrived a bedraggled duo… Crutches ahoy and swine flu are hard to sell as sailing companions… But less-than-able body seaman Glennie and Trace are here now… And Ken is stuck with us. Ken did try to trade us for a Japanese sushi chef/fisherman/deep sea diver to no avail.
We’ve had fun meeting some true characters who form part of an intrepid bunch of World Arc Rally 2016 participants… In many cases homes and jobs have been jettisoned with life happening between and in ports all over the world. For those crew members who will follow us, you are guaranteed to meet some great characters and already the community-like feeling of being a part of this wonderful event is palpable!
Let the sailing begin!
