Adios Resolute! Sorry Ressie ? but you will be safe in the marina. A week ago we packed a few bags and the 4 of us headed for the hills on an overland adventure tour in Panama. It was Michael Williams idea and no surprise it swiftly took on the appearance of a Survivor episode only we stopped short of eliminating each other. We hiked and horse rode, rafted and zipped with strange food experiences mixed up with meeting a few locals and generally exhausting ourselves all under the wing of our most patient of guides, Luis. Poor Luis. Haha he liked to remind us to relax, often! If you are 50 plus you’ll remember ‘Travel all over the countryside.. ?? .. ask the Leyland brothers.’ That’s us! Only in Panama. Right now we’re recharging our batteries in the gorgeous backpackers coastal town of Bocas del Toro, before returning to Panama City and in a matter of days, going our separate ways. Yikes

Tarzan training..

Luis took us to visit two traditional subsistence farming families in different valleys.  We helped them pick crops, watched them cook and then finally ate the produce, which is grown in what looks like completely wild land, all the crops mixed together.  Otherworldly – simple and dignified, but almost impossible to reconcile with modern urban life

Edgar – 2rd generation sustainable organic farmer. Edgar is self taught, apparently immensely curious and creative, and a passionate environmentalist who does what he says.

No roads here.  Edgar used to ride 1.5 hours to school each day, even in the rainy season

Luis is a reincarnated eagle, and likes sharing his passions…

dragging us up rocks and through canyons…

…to waterfalls.  Yep, that is us under there…

and of course, a bit of white water rafting

for a happy cup….
