Picture this: New Year’s Eve; a balmy tropical night; barefoot at Vanessa’s beach restaurant; rum punch flowing; and fresh red snapper over the charcoals! Divine…just the way to welcome the new year. New year’s day spent soaking up the sun at Chatham Bay, one of the Windward Islands’ most idyllic beaches shared with just a few other yachts – paradise found.

Next stop Mustique. The island best known for being the place celebrities hang out when it’s snowing in northern parts of the US of A. They choose to go there to get away from gawking tourists. Except that gawking tourists like us turn up hoping to catch a glimpse of them!
We didn’t see any celebrities like Mick Jagger, Daniel Craig, Kate Moss, Bryan Adams, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Douglas, Tom Ford, Shania Twain….lots of A-list celebs were there either before, during or after our short stay. We even paid US$50 to a taxi driver to drive all over the island to try and spot one!! The tour gives you a sneak peak of some amazing homes so it is worth it.
Nevertheless, Mustique is a Caribbean must-visit. If not for celebrity spotting, then to find a seat at Basil’s Bar and stay all afternoon to drink cocktails and watch a glorious sunset. Take a tip and add Basil’s Bar to your bucket list.

Two nights at Mustique whetted our appetite to stay forever – but we couldn’t as you must own a house to stay so we kept sailing north to Bequia (pronounced beck-way). We hadn’t heard of Bequia either, but this corner of the Caribbean is a picturesque town with so much to offer. Including lobster pizza that was as delicious as it sounds.

The town is built literally on the water’s edge, with charming seaside cafes, restaurants, galleries, dive shops and assorted maritime services. And to top it off, next to our moored boat the locals had set up a floating bar that we could swim to and chat with other yachties whilst watching another stunning sunset.

Celeb spotting, lobster pizza and sunsets are some highlights of the past 5 days of our Caribbean adventure.
